Once housed at 4750 N Sheridan Rd, the Anawim Center has moved to the St. Benedict Church Campus and been renamed the Kateri Center of Chicago after Kateri Tekakwitha, one of the first Native Americans to convert to Christianity.
The Roman Catholic Church announced on Feb. 18 that Kateri has been canonized as a saint, one of the first Native Americans so honored, said Georgina Roy, director of the Kateri Center. The mural at 4750 N Sheridan Rd will be the image of the new saint in holy cards that will be distributed to churches across the country. Arrangements are being made to move the mural with minimal damage to a new shrine for Kateri at St. Benedicts. Georgina stated that the center is just waiting for confirmation of plans from the contractors who will be moving the mural and permission from the Archdiocese of Chicago. She added that everyone will be welcome to visit the artwork in its new home. Comments are closed.
