Join Our Board of Directors
In these challenging and unprecedented times, we are all called to make a difference. Are you at a place in your life where you have the opportunity to give back in a meaningful way? We invite you to apply to participate as a member of the ICA Board of Directors in creating a new path forward. We are in a time of transition and we seek candidates with mutual interests, skills, and time for service.
Our mission is to build a just and equitable society in harmony with planet Earth. We do this by empowering the cultural dimension of society through programs that strengthen the capacities of organizations, communities, and individuals to build and implement innovative plans of action that draw upon assets and social capital in a collaborative manner. In short, we catalyze creative action by others.
The Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) was formally incorporated in 1973 as a program division of The Ecumenical Institute (EI), which was incorporated in 1964. Both ICA and EI are Illinois nonprofit organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The organizations work together, and in most respects operate as one financially and legally interdependent organization that is publically referred to as ICA. The two organizations are financially and legally inter-dependent. ICA-USA is a member of an international network of independent ICAs, with ongoing work in 48 countries.
To be considered for a seat on our Board of Directors, please email a statement of interest and a resume to ICA's Executive Director, Philip Waitzman at pwaitzman@ica-usa.org.
