Gina Alicea of Chicago has been selected to create the artwork that will hang at ICA-USA's headquarters on 4750 N Sheridan Rd.
Gina has an M.F.A. in textile design and an M.Ed. She currently teaches art at the University of Chicago’s Lab School. Along with service work that included setting up a weaving program in Africa, she has participated in artists residency programs in Tanzania and Barcelona. "Having a Masters in Textile Design has me well versed in many techniques," Gina said in her proposal. "That said, I anticipate that I will use mostly sewing and perhaps painting or dying techniques to manipulate the fabric. I see it including all the fabric in a way that layers are incorporated into the piece. I would like for it to represent the mission of ICA, positive social change and sustainable futures." Her artwork has been exhibited in Chicago at Flourish and ARC, among other locations. It has also been exhibited nationally at Goshen College, in Goshen, Ind., Unity Village, Mo., and Triangle Center in Raleigh, N.C. Comments are closed.
