ARCHIVES TEAM GETS READY FOR ARCHON-FILEMAKERPRO TEST

11/28/2012

The Archives Team is continuing to form the procedures to ICA's historical work. This month's focus is the Archon-FilemakerPro Town Meeting Test.
The objectives are to decide which retrieval software to use for collections and to put a sample of the Town Meeting Collection online.

The test team is composed of Rosemary Albright, David Dunn, Walt Epley, Sally Fenton, Jack Gilles, Beret Griffith, Gordon Harper, Steve Harrington, Len Hockley, Frank Knutson, and Tim Wegner. They will organize their work in four smaller teams.

The Archon and FilemakerPro teams will learn how to use the database, organize data and run tests on each system to figure out values of each retrieval system for the collections. The Assets team supplies test items such as scanned documents, video, audio, photos and links. The User team discerns easy access, aesthetics and potential users. They will develop the first collection.

More November Activities
The Archives Advisory Committee presented a five page report of the Fall Sojourn and other significant activities to the Institute of Cultural Affairs' Board of Directors at the November board meeting.

The working document called "The ICA Archives Accession Groupings” was created. The identified domains are not necessarily "collections” but they do point to the areas of historical work in which new collections can be created.

Copies of the report to the Board and the ICA Archives Accession Groupings are available from the Global Archives office.

The next Archive Sojourn period in April-May 2013 will include further development of the Town Meeting ‘76 collection, identification of priority collections and creation of web-pages. Contact the Global Archive office for more information.
