Building an accessible community hub at the ICA GreenRise

We are on a mission to make the ICA GreenRise fully ADA compliant and accessible for all of our community members. This starts with ensuring reliable elevator access for all our residents, tenants, visitors, and neighbors.

Pouring Milk Art

Our home, ICA GreenRise, is a mission-driven community hub on Chicago’s North Side, housing more than 20 nonprofit and social service organizations under one roof, the largest concentration of its kind in the Midwest.

Each day, more than 800 trips are taken on the sole passenger elevator at ICA GreenRise, a critical lifeline connecting residents, service providers, and community members to essential programs and spaces throughout the building.

For seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, families with young children, and those accessing health and social services, reliable elevator access is not a convenience, it is essential to daily life. When the elevator is out of service, even temporarily, residents can be confined to their floors, programs are disrupted, and access to care, food, and community support is compromised.

Your donation will allow us to  modernize this aging elevator system to ensure safe, reliable, and fully ADA- compliant access for all users. This project will replace outdated mechanical and electrical components, improve energy efficiency, and bring the system into compliance with current safety standards.
