ICA COLLEAGUES ATTEND CHICAGO CLIMATE REALITY TRAINING

Early in August, several ICA colleagues attended Al Gore's three-day Climate Reality Leadership Training in downtown Chicago. The Climate Reality Project, founded and chaired by former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore, is 'dedicated to unleashing a global cultural movement demanding action on the climate crisis.' ​

ICA BOARD ELECTS NEW MEMBER AND OFFICERS

The Board of Directors of the Institute of Cultural Affairs elected Kadi Sisay of Chicago as the newest member of the ICA board and picked new officers for the coming year.

​Kadi is an organizational development consultant and is president of ChangeSource. She has facilitated more than 300 strategic planning workshops and retreats in her career, primarily using the methods of Technology of Participation (ToP)®, developed by the Institute.

50TH ANNIVERSARY ARTWORK UNVEILED

The artwork commissioned for the Institute of Cultural Affair’s 50th Anniversary was unveiled at 4750 N. Sheridan in Chicago on September 13, 2012.
​
The unveiling of the artwork, "Ocean of Devotion” by Chicago artist Gina Alicea, was also part of an event for Business Partners, the Chamber for Uptown, where the ICA building is located.

NINO TILLMAN, FORMER ICA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PASSES

Nino Tillman, former Executive Director for the ICA, passed away over Labor Day weekend due to a heart attack. He was 49.

​Nino served as Executive Director between 2008 and 2009. Services were held on Saturday, September 8th, at Hartzell Memorial UMC, 3330 S Martin Luther King Dr in Chicago. Visitation is from 2 to 3 pm. Services will be from 3 to 5 pm.

ICA ANNUAL REPORT 2011 NOW AVAILABLE

The 2011 Annual Report is now available online. ​​​The report takes a comprehensive look at Service Learning, International Initiatives, Technology of Participation (ToP), Learning Basket, sustainability efforts for the GreenRise Learning Laboratory at 4750 N Sheridan Rd, and the Global Archives. It also describes the Institute’s efforts as it moves forward into the next half century with its 50th Anniversary celebrations.

SPENCER FAMILY VISITS ICA

Tina and Raymond Spencer recently visited the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA). They were given a tour of the ICA’s remodeled kitchen and learned about current projects including Accelerate 77.

The Spencers have pledged to match dollar-for-dollar every new and increased gift to the ICA up to $50,000 in 2012.
