LISC & ICA TRAINING: CHICAGO PLANS 2016

After a successful fall 2015 Chicago Plans cohort, ICA and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) are continuing their partnership, a LISC-led effort to empower community leaders with the facilitation skills they need to design and execute successful participation-based planning efforts in community areas across the city. ​

COMMUNITY ENERGY EDUCATION WITH ISEIF CONTINUES IN 2016

ICA and three community organizations that are members of Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network (CSLN)--Chinese American Service League in Chinatown, Centers for New Horizons in Bronzeville, and Neighborhood Housing Services in Chicago Lawn--have been awarded a $180,000 grant from ISEIF, the Illinois Science & Energy Innovation Foundation, to continue to integrate Smart Grid consumer education into ongoing efforts to become neighborhood-based sustainability hubs.

CLOSING OUT THE YEAR WITH CSLN AND A GREENRISE YOUTH HUB DAY

ICA closed out the program events for the year on December 3rd with a Hub event & a Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network (CSLN) gathering. The Hub event drew in an inter-generational group, including CSLN members, students from two high schools, and AmeriCorps Public Allies whose service work involves sustainability with youth. The aim of Hub days are to promote the ICA GreenRise as a community space to gather and learn skills that support personal sustainability.

CHICAGO SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS NETWORK SPRING COLLABORATIONS AND EVENTS

The Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network (CSLN) has been working on neighborhood sustainability across Chicago and around the Midwest. In partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), ICA and three member organizations of CSLN—Chinese American Service League in Chinatown, Centers for New Horizons in Bronzeville, and Sacred Keepers Sustainability Lab in Bronzeville—have been awarded a $250,000 grant from ISEIF, the Illinois Science & Energy Innovation Foundation, to integrate Smart Grid consumer education into ongoing efforts to become neighborhood-based sustainability hubs.

CHICAGO SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS NETWORK HOLDS CITY ROUNDTABLE

On Monday, March 23, 2015, the Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network (CSLN) participated in the network’s first round table meeting at City Hall. The purpose of the round table was to establish an ongoing forum where community leaders and municipal officials can dialogue about mutual concerns related to sustainability.  It was a first step in nurturing a creative ‘in-between space’ that connects city and regional program planning with initiatives driven by local people’s interests, concerns, and action.
