Janet Breidigam, VP of Volunteer Services and Jennifer Freeburg, VP of Program Development
“We all knew that there was a problem with first-year girls and adult retention, we just didn’t know
what it was,” Janet recalls. Representatives from Membership to Cookies… were asked to participate
in a Participatory Strategic Planning retreat. People were hungry for a process that worked and didn’t
waste their time. They were engaged, curious, and surprised that the methods worked.
”
Results include a first-year retention plan, a 90-day action plan, quarterly progress meetings, a communication plan, new work
groups, and named outcomes. Jennifer adds, “While it’s too early to measure results, because of the methods we have a prescribed
path to follow. The methods help to keep the plan alive, it allows staff to have their have voices heard and be active participants…”
