A Symposium hosted by Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC will honor the ministries of Joseph Wesley Mathews, first Dean of the Ecumenical Institute and the Institute of Cultural Affairs, and his brother Bishop James K. Mathews. The two brothers and their families have inspired untold numbers of people from all cultures, countries, and religious traditions to engage in a life of service.

The Symposium theme is "Transforming the Legacy: People of Spirit in the 21st Century". It is a celebration of what these two brothers have given to us. It will include reports from organizations and individuals whose current work has been influenced by the pair. The Symposium's intent is to highlight directions for those who care to effect the changes needed for the future of our planet. It will also include the inauguration of the Joseph Wesley Mathews family archives at the Wesley Theological Seminary Library.
