Community Development Intensive

When people work together to meet their own changing social and economic needs, community development is successful and sustainable. For over 50 years, ICA has been implementing its "grass-roots" process in communities around the world, resulting in long - term, locally motivated change. The Community Development Intensive is a two day course which establishes the context of community development as a whole-system change. This course covers the full cycle of community based change.

ICA is known nationally and globally for its participatory methods for community development. Come learn tools created through 50 years of experience engaging diverse populations in building sustainable communities. This training will focus on putting these tools to use to build communities that are sustainable environmentally, eco-nomically and equitably.

l  9 Ingredients Of Community Development - Exploring the context of comprehensive development

l  Approaches To Community Development - Looking beyond ICA work to other forms and foci of development

l  Economic, Social & Cultural Presuppositions of CD - Examining the presupposiotion of ICA as a way to discern other presuppositions operating in the development context and how this impacts the work.

 

Participatory Approach Lab (Grounded in Reality)

l  Ladder of Participation - Exploring levels as a way to explore intention of involvement and the impact on the community of these expectations and their own

l  Field Research: Local Community - Using each persons current community as a grounding point to begin exploring the development context.

l  Using The Social Process Triangles

               

FRAMEWORK

l  Multi Sector Approach -Exploring development sectors and their impact on community programs

l  Program Screen - ICA's programmatic elements for comprehensive impact

l  Focusing A Project - Participants begin to explore their own development context

l  Creating A Framework Of Support - in their own context what is the frame they have and what do they need.
