The Institute of Cultural Affairs in the USA (ICA) is proudly celebrating "ICA Sustainable September", a month-long initiative to raise awareness of global climate change issues culminating with a Share Fair and Solar Panel Unveiling on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the ICA GreenRise building, 4750 N. Sheridan Road. 

The "ICA Sustainable September" events includes:

      · Sept. 6 -The Great March for Climate Action's Celebratory Welcome Dinner ICA will host around 40 marchers for a celebratory potluck at 6:30pm at ICA GreenRise.

· Sept. 12-"Fixing the Future" a free screening of the movie followed by discussion with the Mutual Aid Network and the Chicago Time Exchange

· Sept. 18-"Preparing for Climate Change" panel discussion featuringWGN-TV’s Tom Skilling & Nobel Laureate Donald Wuebbles 

· Sept. 19-"Communicating Sustainability within a Polarized Society" workshop with communications expert George Marshall

· Sept. 24-Share Fair and Solar Panel Unveiling of the largest number of solar panels on a building outside of Downtown Chicago



 ICA’s value set has always been about inclusivity and creating a space where anyone is able to engage and so all of our ICA Sustainable September events are FREE OF CHARGE. However there are always costs associated with hosting these types of activities. Consider donating to our ICA Sustainable September Indiegogo Campaign to help us offset the cost of providing a great month long series of sustainability events. 

 


ICA Releases Fifth City Video to Commemorate Fifth City Preschool 50th Anniversary!

 

In 1962, ICA established operations in Fifth City in Chicago's East Garfield Park community on the West Side of Chicago.

 

Two years later, Fifth City community members established the Fifth City Child Development Institute. This Saturday, July 26th, 9am-3pm, Fifth City Preschool will celebrate 50 years of providing early education to neighborhood children. 

Ruth Carter (1936-2013), the dynamic, former director of the Fifth City Preschool, will be honored as Trumbull Ave., near Fifth Ave., will be named honorary Ruth Carter Lane.

Sustainable Community Development Summer Program

This year marks the fourth consecutive summer ICA has hosted a program aimed to immerse university students in the arena of sustainable community development.  

 

This summer's Sustainable Community Development Intensive (SCDI) course was designed to complement academic coursework for students interested in pursuing a career in the field of community development.
