EXPLORE URBAN ECOLOGY ALONG UPTOWN'S COAST

Join ICA and the Uptown Coastal Initiative for Urban Ecology, the first session of ICA's Out and About Uptown’s Coast series, to learn more about native ecology including wildlife habitat in Uptown’s coastal zone.

The session starts at 1:00pm on May 21st at ICA for a conversation with local ecology experts, including Susan Ask of animalia project. The second component of the session will be a guided nature walk through Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary and Montrose Beach Dunes. The session is free, and you can RSVP at tinyurl.com/UptownICZ.

The Out and About Uptown’s Coast series hopes to connect residents, workers, and visitors, and strengthen links between the well-being of the coastal ecosystem and the health and well-being of those who live, work, and visit Uptown’s coast.

RECAPPING 2016 CHICAGO SUSTAINABILITY

The Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network (CSLN) met on February 23rd to reflect on the work of 2016 and plan for a productive 2017. 2016 was a substantial year for the network, as seen in the year in review. Most notably, members wrapped up two substantial collaborative projects: a Smart Grid education project and a collaborative partnership with the City around recycling. Through these projects, the network has increased the capacity of its members, strengthened its relationship with the City of Chicago, gained experience in collaborative programming, and outreached to over 5000 Chicago residents about sustainability.

ICA'S PAST, PRESENT, & FUTURE: ENGAGING COLLEAGUES

Current ICA Program Manager, Caitlin Sarro, and ICA colleague Terry Bergdall recently spent 6 days on the road visiting ICA colleagues in St. Louis and Kansas City. As a 50+ year old organization, ICA has a wide network of colleagues whose experience and support has help shape the organization for many years. This trip brought together just a few of those individuals and offered them an opportunity to hear more about ICA’s current work and the long-term organizational vision.

Each meeting proved to be a happy mix of the past, present, and future. Colleagues reconnected through discussions of how they were first engaged with EI/ICA, how their lives have been shaped by their engagement and how the organization has influenced their current work.
